Connection
Good morning friends,
I would like to share a short story with you today.
This morning I went to the local supermarket.
I live in a small town close to the city of Hamburg.
As I was about to pay for the groceries, the cashier, a lady in her late sixties, looked at me and said: Where have you been?! I have the feeling that I haven't seen you for a month!
I mentioned that I was sick last week and didn't go to the supermarket that often during that time.
She responded with surprise and added, "No way! It feels to me that I haven't seen you for a long time! I missed you!"
Her warmth and spontaneous way of approaching me surprised me. I felt a bit shy and didn't know how to respond ...
Her words took me out of the habitual pattern of thought.
So refreshing, isn't it?
As I was walking back home, I remembered offering her some kind words of appreciation for her work last winter. I saw her carrying some heavy boxes at the supermarket. It was late in the evening.
The fact that I noticed her and appreciated her efforts, probably surprised her that day.
Maybe that action planted a seed for further joyful encounters.
It does not take much effort to pay attention, appreciate others and express kindness.
Noticing, "seeing" another person, offering a smile or a gesture of kindness, can bring us out of "our own cocoon."
Sometimes simple interactions like that bring a lot of joy to ourselves and others.
They build up connections.
“Heart-to-heart-connections”.
Don't you think?
Have a great day.
See you soon.
